Thanks Don,

I'm really happy with the GH2 and it's results. Haven't done any video yet though. Right now I'm just waiting for my Pana/Leica 45mm to return to me from a friend along with my GF1, which were on a 'to get or not to get a mu4/3 camera mission'. But their mission was successful and my friend will soon join the club. Hoping to do some macro work with the Pana/Leica soon.

always good light

Reactivating this thread with a couple close ups of a moss dominated, epiphytic bryophyte community per taxonomic remarks here. I'll have a look through my stacks and post more moss later.

Some thoughts on thread structure:
  • Since this is a moss thread mosses should probably be the main thing in images posted. However, I don't see any reason to avoid discussion of mosses. We have lots of no words/image dominated threads already.
  • If you're unsure if something is a moss several of the following posts address misidentifications and differences between mosses, fungi, lichens, and other plant taxa: post #28, 32, and 45. The fungi, lichens, and general plants threads may also be helpful.
  • If you've done your homework and have moss questions, about identification or ecology or other moss things, feel free to ask. Mosses are generally underappreciated so it seems best if this thread is both educational and pretty to look at.

(There's also Mosses but the content there's expired. And I like this title better.)

Some from a series of Metaneckera menziesii closeups in sun after a few days of rain. Weather made for well hydrated leaves and specular highlights, so it was kind of like finding jewels on trees.

(At least four moss species and one lichen. For the two largest masses I suspect Polytrichaceae but failed to make adequately detailed observations.)

Mosses are very old as terrestrial plants go. One tidbit: "Spanish moss" common in the South is not a moss, but a flowering plant. It is an epiphyte and lives high up on other plants like trees.

An old favorite from my Pentax several years back, deliberately processed low. Taken with the unloved 50-200wr, which I always liked for its character.
